Membership of the Society
The Society’s objective is to bring together people connected with, or having an interest in engineering and technology. It aims to encourage friendship, whilst at the same time promote the role of the engineer in society and pass on knowledge to youngsters considering engineering as a profession.
The Society presents around ten high quality lectures in Nottingham each year. All the lecturers are experts in their field and many of them are currently employed by large international organisations.
For Example, the lecture programme for 2009 – 2010 has the topical theme ‘Transport in the East Midlands’, delivered by speakers from organisations such as East Midlands Airport, East Midlands Trains and Network Rail.
In addition to the lecture programme, summer visits are made each year to places of engineering interest. In 2008 - 2009 places visited included Peterborough Power Station, Ashley Isles in Lincolnshire and The Great Central Railway, Loughborough.
A trip to the Airbus factory in Toulouse and the 1,125 ft high (max) Millau Bridge over the river Tarn in France, took place in 2007.

The Society maintains contact with its members throughout the year with three Newsletters and a comprehensive annual publication referred to as Proceedings. This document, which typically runs to seventy pages, includes a detailed record of the lectures given during the year.
Society members and their guests are invited to attend the Society’s Annual Dinner. This event, which takes place at towards the end of November each year, is well attended and enjoyed by all members and their guests.
Membership of the Society brings all of these benefits to its members. It is open to anybody with an interest in engineering, science or technology for the annual sum of £18.00, payable by standing order or £20.00 by cheque.
